TRACKING LOCALS ON THE PGA TOUR
This week: Wells Fargo Championship, through Sunday, Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina
In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore, University Place’s Michael and Andrew Putnam, and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales.
Moore’s and Gonzales’ second-round score: 1-under-par 71.
Michael Putnam’s second-round score: Even-par 72.
Andrew Putnam’s second-round score: 1-over 73.
Position: Moore (2-under 142) is for 42nd, and Michael Putnam and Gonzales (1-under 143) are tied for 55th — all trailing co-leaders Webb Simpson and Robert Streb (10-under 134). Andrew Putnam (5-over 149) missed the cut.
Recap: Not much was going on with Moore — until late in his round at the seventh hole. His pitched shot from behind the green tracked right into the hole for an eagle-3, and gave him some elbow room to make the cut. … Gonzales had the best round going for any local when he reached 3-under after his birdie at the sixth hole (7-iron tee shot to 16 feet). But he hit a wedge approach way short at No. 8, leading to a bogey, then sailed a drive left into the left-side trees, leading to a round-ending bogey. … Michael Putnam made 15 pars, which isn’t always bad on a course as demanding as Quail Hollow. His only birdie came at the 11th hole – on a 9-foot putt after a wedge approach shot. … Andrew Putnam made three birdies in his first six holes – but needed more.
Tee times Saturday: Gonzales and Michael Putnam at 6:27 a.m. (PDT), and Moore at 6:45 a.m. (PDT).
