Tracking Andres Gonzales on the PGA Tour: Saturday at the Wells Fargo Championship

This week: Wells Fargo Championship, Thursday through Sunday, Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Third-round score: The Capital High School graduate shot a 1-over-par 73.

Position: Gonzales (even-par 216) is tied for 67th — 18 shots behind leader Rory McIlroy (18-under 198).

Recap: Gonzales went from being in danger of missing the final-day cut after making a triple bogey on No. 17 (tee shot at par-3 hole went into a lake) to moving back inside the cut line by drilling a 17-foot putt for birdie on the finishing hole — set up by a 330-yard drive. He’ll play all four rounds for the 11th time in 16 events this season but will need to move up Sunday in order to finish higher than 60th for the first time since the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Feb. 15.

Tee times Sunday: 5:15 a.m. (PDT) off the first tee.
