Saint Martin's holds on, 7-6, for GNAC baseball victory

Saint Martin's gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth but hung on to defeat Montana State Billings, 7-6, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference baseball game Saturday.

Saint Martin’s scored five runs in the last three innings to pull out the victory.

Catcher Travis Jones went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead the Saints (11-8 overall, 6-8 GNAC).

Meanwhile, the Saint Martin’s softball team split a doubleheader with Central Washington, winning the opener, 4-3, then losing the nightcap, 8-3.

Saint Martin’s (14-24, 10-16) tied the score 3-3 in the second game on Kristi Sigafoos’ RBI single. Joslyn Eugenio kept her 14-game hitting streak alive with an RBI single.

Central (20-11, 15-6) was three outs away from a win in the opener when Megan Antonovich hit the winning double.

Cam Atkinson scored twice, John Muse made 20 saves, and Boston College won the NCAA hockey championship for the second time in three years with a 5-0 victory against Wisconsin in Detroit. … Former Pittsburgh associate head coach Tom Herrion has been hired as Marshall’s new basketball coach.
