The Olympian’s 2016 All-Area volleyball team

Player of the year: MB Julianna Salanoa, Timberline, sr.

Coach of the year: Tana Otton, Tumwater

FIRST TEAM

Outside hitter — Kennedy Croft, Tumwater, jr.: Last year’s all-area player of the year, repeated as the Class 2A Evergreen Conference’s most valuable player this season. After verbally committing to Gonzaga in July, Croft put up stellar numbers again, leading the T-Birds in kills (311), blocks (29) and aces (28) in regular season play.

Outside hitter — Lauren Wilson, Olympia, sr.: Wilson shouldered the load offensively for the Bears with 246 kills in their first season in the grueling 4A South Puget Sound League. From the left side, she led Olympia in blocking (33), and added 336 digs as one of the Bears’ top defensive players.

Middle blocker — Hali Ehresmann, Capital, sr.: Consistent in the front row (218 kills, 85 total blocks) and from the service line (240 of 263, with 23 aces) Ehresmann was also a first team 3A South Sound Conference selection.

Middle blocker — Olivia Fairchild, North Thurston, sr.: Had more than half of North Thurston’s kills this season (187), and was a first team 3A SSC selection. The 6-foot-2 Fairchild also had 57 blocks and 20 aces for the Rams.

Setter — Maddy Pilon, Tumwater, sr.: Eastern Oregon commit knows when to spread the ball out, and when to give it to the big hitter, coach Tana Otton says. Tallied 587 assists and 134 digs for the T-Birds, and was awarded 2A EvCo first team honors.

Setter — Natalie Stark, Timberline, sr.: Stark’s smarts make her valuable in crunch time, coach Jackie Meyer says. The 3A SSC first team selection was just shy of 500 assists (she had 497) in the regular season, and added 122 digs and 31 aces.

Libero — Cristina Hegarty, Tumwater, sr.: Was moved from outside hitter to libero last season, and has been a 2A EvCo first team selection both years in the new position. Led the T-Birds in digs in their undefeated regular season.
