CAPITAL INVITE HOSTS 56 TEAMS:
The Capital Invite is set to start at Heritage Park Saturday, at the lower part of Capitol Lake. This year's invitees comprise 56 teams, including three teams ranked at the top of their classes. The two top regional teams are the Northwest Christian and Gig Harbor girls squads.
Of the teams entered, 12 are ranked in the top 12 of their division and come from all regions of Washington state with the exception of a Portland squad.
Notable runners participating expected to have big seasons include Tumwater's Nathan Duray and Capital's Amanda Wright.

The citizen's race, open to the public, begins at 9:45 a.m. Boys and girls will start from age divisions afterward and leave in 30-minute intervals for the two-mile race. The event is expected to last until 1:30-2 p.m.
LOCAL HORSESHOE PLAYERS COMPLETE STATE TOURNEY:
The Washington State Horseshoe Players Association completed their state singles tournament in Bellingham. Locals from the Olympia region who placed notably include Paul Tutewyler and Larry Tunison who finished fifth in the A-30 class. Larry Fuller and Bernie Brooks placed second and third respectively in the C-40 class.
Jean Covington placed third in the women's class. Organizer Lester Spilseth estimated 70-80 people competed in the three-day tournament.
