Boy, girl win district Hoop Shoot crowns

Two South Sound middle school students won the district Elks Hoop Shoot in their age division Jan. 30 in Renton.

Luke Hare, a Bush Middle School student, won first place in the 12-13 age group. This is Hare’s third straight district victory. Nicoly Fesenbeck, a Reeves Middle School student, won the girls 12-13 age group.

Both players advance to the state competition, which is this weekend in Bellevue. This will be Hare’s third consecutive state appearance.


Capital VBC fares well: The Capital Volleyball Club 13U team won the Spanaway Invitational on Sunday.

The team defeated Southhill Volleyball Club of Puyallup, 13-25, 25-22, 16-14, in the title match. The 12U team took first in the silver bracket of the same tournament, defeating Power Surge of Tacoma, 2-0.


Blackhills FC: The Blackhills FC Boys U18 team finished its state cup with a 2-1 win over Sun City Strikers. … The FC ’92 team defeated Norpoint, 2-1, in the state cup. … The U16 girls tied FC Alliance from Bothel, 1-1. … The U17 team defeated Northwest Nationals, 2-1, and tied Crossfire, 1-1.


Williams competes: Christian Williams earned a silver medal at the junior division of the Vancouver International Judo Tournament in North Vancouver, B.C., over the weekend.


Hole-in-one: Huck Boyd used an 8-iron to hit a hole-in-one on the 163-yard, 16th hole at Capitol City Golf Course.

It’s Boyd’s first hole-in-one, and it came on his birthday.

The Olympian
