Olympia girls beat Gig Harbor, 53-39

TACOMA – Marnie Brown had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Olympia to a 53-39 win over Gig Harbor in the Narrows League girls basketball tournament. Olympia faces Wilson at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Foss High School in a district-seeding game.

Olympia jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter. Bears coach Louise Webb said one key for her team was outrebounding Gig Harbor, which her team did, 47-40.

“The big thing was beating them on the boards,” Webb said.

Rainier 67, Tenino 50: The Mountaineers (15-5 overall, 12-2 SWW 1A) wrapped up the regular season and earned the league’s second seed heading into the district tournament, starting next Thursday at Chehalis.

Ashley Stancil had 14 points, and Kristen and Kara Schoenherr combined for 17 points for Rainier. Kaitlin Forest led Tenino with 16 points.


Rainier 56, Tenino 36: At 7-7 in SWW 1A play, Rainier earned a place in a pigtail playoff game and likely will face Kalama. Chris Ashby led Rainier with 21 points, and Dalton Delio scored 13.
