Barber's big night fuels Puyallup's win

It was quite a start for Puyallup High and quarterback Erin Barber.

The senior threw seven touchdown passes, including three in the third quarter to blow open a close game, to key the Vikings’ 58-14 victory over Spanaway Lake at Art Crate Stadium on Friday.

Puyallup rolled up 608 total yards, including 391 yards passing by Barber. He threw four first-half TDs – three to Dom Holub – to help the Vikings take a 28-14 lead at the half.

Holub was Barber’s main target, catching eight passes for 234 yards and four TDs. Barber completed 18 passes in 33 attempts.

Spanaway Lake kept it close with two big plays in the first half. Deven McKinney scored on a 73-yard interception return, and Christian Konkel threw a 69-yard TD to Brakkar Sweet to cut the Vikings’ lead to two touchdowns at the intermission.

Sweet led the Sentinels with five catches for 102 yards.

Lincoln 26, Mount Tahoma 22: Leon Jenkins’ third touchdown run of the night, a 3-yarder in the fourth quarter, lifted the Abes over the Thunderbirds. Jenkins gained a game-high 203 yards on 27 carries.

Mount Tahoma led, 16-12, at the half, thanks to the arm and legs of DeAndre Baines. Baines threw a 17-yard scoring pass to Tevin Novak, ran for a 1-yard TD and completed two two-point conversion passes.

Eatonville 17, Orting 14: Christian Clarence lifted the visiting Cruisers to the win with a 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Evan Chandler led the Cardinals with 100 yards rushing on 13 carries. His 52-yard run in the third quarter tied the game at 14.

Shane Saunders led Eatonville with 128 yards rushing, and Clarence added two extra points.

Bellarmine Prep 38, Bishop Blanchet 0: Scott Comfort rushed four first-half touchdowns to lead the Lions’ blitz over the visiting Braves.

Comfort, who gained 144 yards on 24 carries, provided the offense, and Dan King spearheaded a defense that allowed just 56 total yards. King made 10 tackles and had an interception.

Lakes 63, Clover Park 12: Cedric Dozier rans for 127 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 124 yards and another score to lead the visiting Lancers to the win.

Lakes scored 28 points in the first quarter, but the Warriors answered with two TD passes by Tana Pritchard. The Lancers answered with a 55-yard scoring run by Dozier that began a 35-0 run.

Fife 27, Olympic 20: The Trojans, relying on their ground game, rallied from a 14-3 deficit to win their home opener against Olympic.

Brad Finlayson rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries to lead an attack that amassed 377 yards rushing. Finlayson’s 38-yard run in the third quarter and the ensuing extra point cut Olympic’s lead to 14-13. Tyler Tecca scored later in the quarter on a 1-yard run to give the Trojans a lead that they would not relinquish.

Willie Kudera passed for 186 yards and two first-half TDs for Olympic. He completed 18 of 34 passes.

Charles Wright 13, Tacoma Baptist 0: Marquel Hawkins returned a blocked field goal 87 yards for the only touchdown of the game to help the Tarriers win their home opener . Alec Dennis kicked field goals of 22 and 29 yards for Charles Wright.

Enumclaw 40, Yelm 14: Dylan Podolak threw for three touchdowns and Andy Holdener ran for two TDs and 155 yards to help the visiting Hornets open with a win.

Enumclaw scored the first 34 points of the game as Podolak connected on 24-yard and 13-yard TDs to Tyler Carlson.

Yelm was led by Jacob Swilley’s 105 yards rushing.
