Black Hills Wolves

Coach: Matt Bell (sixth season)

Last season: 12-2 overall, placed fifth at state

Returning varsity bowlers: Nicole Hayes, jr., 181 average; Soren Creamer, jr., 145; Sam McDonell, sr., 137; Yolanda Walters, so., 115.

Top newcomer: Alex Putzier, fr.

Coach’s outlook: “I believe we will do well this year in league, and will be competitive in the district tournament. Our goal is to place at state, but first, we need to concentrate on getting there.”

North Thurston Rams

Coach: Bob Wienski (first season)

Last season: Finished second in league, advanced to district tournament

Returning varsity bowlers: Mallory Dobbs, jr.; Ashley Peterson, sr.; Natalie Burres, jr.; Martina Santos, sr.; Erin McMeel, sr.

Top newcomers: Ebony Woods, jr.; Tanya Hoehne, sr.

Coach’s outlook: “As our team goal this year, we hope to place first in our league, then also make it to state. That has always been our goal and we are determined to achieve it this year.”

Shelton Highclimbers

Coach: Curt Snyder (eighth season)

Last season: 14-1 overall, placed ninth in district tournament

Returning varsity bowlers: Mishawn Ewart, jr., 160 average; Danielle Ewart, so., 157; Brittany Chamberlin, sr., 154; Mackenzie Chakos, sr., 152.

Top newcomer: Caitlyn Borys, fr.

Coach’s outlook: “This year’s Highclimber girls are a better team than the Narrows League champions of last year. I expect to contend for the 4A Narrows League championship again this year. I expect the team to participate in the postseason this year.”

Timberline Blazers

Coach: John Wilson (10th season)

Last season: 13-1 overall, placed sixth at state tournament

Returning varsity bowlers: Kelsi Mayther, jr., 158 average; Jamie Sheppard, sr., 151; Rachel Hilberg, so., 148.

Top newcomers: Sydney Robertson, fr.; Brooke Collins, fr.

Coach’s outlook: “I am very confident we will bring individuals to state, and have a good chance of making it as a team. We have three very solid contenders as individuals, and if we can strengthen our fourth and fifth position with some experience and technique improvement, we have a reasonable chance to earn a berth.”

Tumwater Thunderbirds

Coach: Wendy Roberson (10th season)

Last season: Finished third in league, advanced to district tournament

Returning varsity bowlers: Leea Haworth, sr., 196 average; Hannah Robertson, sr., 133; Kaylee Hassett, sr., 117.

Top newcomers: April Custer, fr., 147 average; Jennifer Lewis, so., 137; Alyssa Snyder, fr., 117

Coach’s outlook: “We will be doing our best to challenge the others in our league. Black Hills has the best outlook for first in our league, but we hope to give them a run for the first-place position.”

Yelm Tornados

Coach: Stacy Roe (ninth season)

Last season: 4-10 overall

Returning varsity bowlers: Brittany Lunsford, sr., 142 average; Brooke Lunsford, jr., 149; Amanda Simons, sr., 139; Miranda Birdsong, jr., 139.

Top newcomers: Ashlee Winther, sr., 136; Becky Espinoza, jr., 123; Kim Skean, jr., 120.

Coach’s outlook: “Our starting five have bowled together not only in high school, but play on Saturdays at Aztec Lanes for their youth league. Their averages continue to increase so we want to compete against some of the better teams in the league. We can only control the controllable; ourselves.”
