OLYMPIA - The defending Class 2A state champion Chehalis Bearcats unloaded their power against 4A Olympia, pounding out nine hits – including two home runs - in an 8-2 nonleague baseball victory at Crandall Field.
Robert Pehl, the two-time Evergreen Conference MVP, picked up the win on the mound and hit a three-run homer for the No. 1-ranked Bearcats, who remained undefeated.
Mitch Gueller also homered for Chehalis. He went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Colin Lang had two of the Bears’ five hits, and Cole Loncar added a triple.
Olympia, which committed four errors, resumes Narrows League play Monday against Bellarmine.
Yelm 36, Lincoln 2: The Tornados scored 14 runs in the first inning and 11 in the third in a game that ended after four innings.
Yelm 7, Montesano 6: Despite having as many errors as runs scored, the Tornados improved to 4-1 with a nonleague win in their first game since March 22.
Sophomore pitcher Tessa Matthews picked up her third victory. Brandi Romer (2-for-3, two RBI), Jaynani Cababat (2-for-3, three runs) and Courtney Madsen (2-for-4, two runs) sparked Yelm’s offense.
