The Seattle Seahawks waived offensive lineman Kyle Williams and signed offensive tackle Brandon Frye on Sunday.
Frye, who was released by the Miami Dolphins, replaces Williams on the active roster.
Also, the Seahawks officially announced the signing of safety Lawyer Milloy to a one –year contract.
Seattle has not firmed up the eight slots available for its practice squad, but will do so today. However, several online reports have the Seahawks placing wide receivers Logan Payne and Mike Hass, and running back Devin Moore on the practice squad.
The Seahawks begin practice today for Sunday’s season opener, a 1 p.m. game against the NFC West rival St. Louis Rams.
Frye is a third-year player from Virginia Tech who played in seven games for the Dolphins last season. At 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, Frye has the size to play tackle and the mobility to play guard. Frye’s athleticism should help him in adjusting to Seattle’s zone blocking scheme.
San Diego star linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested Sunday and accused of choking and restraining his girlfriend, reality TV star Tila Tequila.
She signed a citizen’s arrest warrant, charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment, San Diego County Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Steadman said. Both are felonies.
Merriman was taken into custody and booked into the central jail about 8:30 a.m. He was released about 11 a.m.
Merriman’s attorney, Todd Macaluso, disputed Tequila’s story and said he’s confident Merriman won’t be charged by the District Attorney’s Office.
“There was absolutely no wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Merriman,” Macaluso said.
Reality show winner Jesse Holley still has a role with the Dallas Cowboys — on the practice squad. The wide receiver won Michael Irvin’s reality TV show, which gave him a spot in training camp. He returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown in an exhibition game. … The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran quarterback A.J. Feeley, leaving Michael Vick as the team’s third QB behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb. … Oakland traded it first-round pick in 2011 to New England for five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Richard Seymour. … Star cornerback Dunta Robinson ended his holdout and signed the $9.957 million, one-year deal the Texans had offered all along.
