Historic biplanes stop in Olympia as part of 100th anniversary of air mail service
Three vintage Stearman Speedmail biplanes stopped at Olympia Regional Airport Friday as part of a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of air mail service in the U.S.
They are retracing the 1,200-mile pioneering West Coast air mail route. At each stop of the flight, hundreds of letters that they are carrying are postmarked by hand.
Only seven of the original 41 wood and fabric open-cockpit biplanes still fly.
