WheelMates Launches Its First Public Steam Demo - RC Cars, Puzzles, and Split-Screen Co-Op Are Waiting

Two tiny RC cars. One missing scientist. A house full of secrets. The WheelMates demo is free on Steam starting today, and if co-op puzzle games are your thing, this one is worth an hour of your time right now.

WheelMates comes from FireVolt, an independent studio focused on shared experiences, and the premise is exactly as charming as it sounds. You and a partner guide a pair of miniature RC cars through the home of an eccentric scientist who has gone missing, navigating furniture, kitchen appliances, ventilation systems, and whatever else the house has decided to put in your way. The world is built to tiny-car scale, which means the mundane becomes genuinely interesting as an obstacle course.

What's In The WheelMates Demo

The public demo is a meaningful step up from the earlier playtest. The Kitchen area from the first playtest is back, but the new Garage section is the real addition: a bigger, more open space with more tools to play with and more secrets tucked into corners. The magnet grab and rope swing both debut here, which adds genuine puzzle variety beyond basic navigation.

The demo now supports local split-screen co-op alongside the existing online play option, which is a big deal for a game built around two-player cooperation. The physics have been reworked to feel more intuitive, the camera controls have been improved, and the build includes localization for 14 languages. This is a polished demo, not a rough proof of concept.

WheelMates Design Philosophy That Makes It Work

One of the things that stands out about WheelMates is the deliberate lack of time pressure. There are no timers, no pressure to rush, and no punishment for taking your time to explore and experiment. The game is built around shared problem-solving at your own pace, which is a refreshing design choice in a space full of games that love to stress you out. It is the kind of co-op experience you can sit down to with someone who does not play games constantly and have a genuinely good time.

The full game is confirmed for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though no release date has been set yet. For now, the demo is the cleanest way to understand what FireVolt is building here. Download it for free on Steam and bring a friend.
