Bagel Brothers in Olympia to close
After more than two decades, Bagel Brothers in Olympia will close for good on Sunday.
“It has been a joy and we hope to see you for our farewell weekend. Thank you Olympia,” the store wrote in a Facebook post announcing its closure.
The bakery and deli on Cooper Point Road Southwest also supplied items to local coffee shops, grocery stores and schools. Other Bagel Brothers locations have closed over the years. This was the original and last remaining store, said owner Louisa Clark.
Clark, a former baker and manager at Bagel Brothers, bought the store earlier this year.
“I had a lot of love for it, but I needed capital,” she said Friday. “It needed me with $100,000 to totally revamp it.”
Bagel Brothers had 11 employees, and Clark said she was looking at the possibility of layoffs before deciding to close after sales slowed down. It is in a strip mall with empty storefronts and she said part of the problem was a lack of foot traffic.
Bagel Brothers will be open until 3 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
