Person found dead in vehicle at Marathon Park in Olympia, State Patrol says

A person was found dead in a vehicle in the parking lot at Marathon Park near Capitol Lake in Olympia Thursday night, Washington State Patrol says.

Just after 10 p.m. Thursday, Olympia Police found the body while checking on the vehicle and called Washington State Patrol, according to a news release. State Patrol has jurisdiction in the park, which is part of the Capitol Campus.

Troopers and detectives responded and do not suspect foul play after a preliminary investigation, the release says. There were no signs of violence and the person was alone, Sgt. Darren Wright told The Olympian.

Sgt. Wright could not tell The Olympian any information that might identify the person, including the type of vehicle, because their next of kin had not yet been identified as of Friday morning.

Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock confirmed Friday that the body was in the care of his office.

More information is expected to be released after an autopsy is completed and next of kin are notified.
