A person was found dead inside an RV that caught fire near Black Lake Wednesday night

Firefighters extinguished a recreational vehicle fire near Black Lake Wednesday and found a dead body inside.

The McLane Black Lake Fire Department responded at 11:48 p.m. to a report of a residential structure fire in the 7000 block of Greendale Court SW, according to a news release from the fire department.

When fire crews arrived, they found an RV on fire and the blaze threatening an adjacent house. Fire crews extinguished the RV fire, which they described as fully involved, and protected the house from further damage, the news release says. While they did so, fire crews found a person inside the RV who was pronounced dead at the scene.

McLane Black Lake Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the person’s death. Officials are withholding the person’s identity, citing the ongoing investigation.

East Olympia Fire District 6, Lacey Fire District 3, Griffin Fire Department, Tumwater Fire Department and West Thurston Regional Fire Authority responded to the fire as well.

The news release says the Sheriff’s Office will share updates as they become available.
