Hunter sight-in: Capitol City Rifle and Pistol Club, 14318 Littlerock Road, Littlerock, will have a sight-in for firearms owners starting at 9 a.m. Instruction will cover the handling of firearms, including loading, aiming and firing rifles. The club will supply 200-yard range, spotting scopes, sandbags, bench rests, targets and a range safety officer. $5. Thurston County 1875-1900 and 28th annual Cider Sunday: Free family event celebrating Thurston County history during the years 1875-1900. Displays, hands-on activities, period clothing, music, food and river walk tour available. Cider pressing is $3 per gallon — bring your own apples and jugs. Quixote Village celebration: The public is invited to celebrate the village’s Silver Medal for Urban Excellence award in a national competition sponsored by the Rudy Bruner Foundation (brunerfoundation.org/rba). The event is 2-4 p.m. There will be a brief awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m. to honor the partners who helped make the village a reality, and everyone will be welcome to tour the village, and meet its residents and sponsors.

Oct. 7

Lacey Chamber luncheon: The featured speaker is Jan Teague, president and CEO of the Washington Retail Association. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Worthington Center at Saint Martin’s University. It begins at noon. $20 in advance for members. $25 for members and guests at the door. Oct. 9

Mason County Power of the Purse: Turning Pointe Domestic Violence Services hosts its third annual Power of the Purse. It’s from 4-7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Little Creek Events Center, 91 W. state Route 108, Shelton. Silent and live auctions. Tickets are $25 each, which includes entry, appetizers, dessert, and a cocktail or another beverage. Tickets are at turningpointe.org, at Turning Pointe’s Facebook page or by calling 360-426-1216. Donations of new and gently used purses, wallets and scarves can be made at 210 Pacific Court, Shelton.

Oct. 10

South Sound Women’s Day: Speaker Marilyn McKenny highlights the event, which runs 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Oct. 10. at South Puget Sound Community College’s Student Union Building, 2011 Mottman Road SW. Presentation topics include career, business, networking, home maintenance, cooking and financial education. Tickets are $75, if purchased by Oct. 3, $85 after Oct. 3. Candidates forum: The Mason County Senior Activities Center and the League of Women Voters of Mason County are sponsoring a free event from 2-4 p.m. at the Senior Activities Center, 190 W. Sentry Drive, Shelton. Featured are candidates for the positions of mayor, commissioner of finance and accounting, Port of Shelton Position 1, and four Shelton School District Board positions.
