Washington State Archives Month: The Washington State Archives and its Southwest Regional Branch in Olympia are hosting a free open house from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at 1129 Washington St. SE, Olympia. Visitors can learn how to organize and maintain personal electronic records, discover what sorts of records can help with family history research, and see some amazing collections in the State Archives. State Archivist Steve Excell will be available to help visitors with family history research questions. Guided tours of the facility also will be given. South Capitol walking tour: State Capital Museum staff presents a history of the South Capitol neighborhood, followed by a walking tour. Tour participants should gather at the Coach House, 211 21st Ave. SW, no later than 1 p.m. No reservations. $3 donation. Information: 360-753-2580.
Lamplighter tour: Hear tales of the past from Tenino and Bucoda with a tour of Forest Grove Cemetery, 18011 Northcraft Road SE, Tenino. Dessert and cider are included. Tickets are available at The Ironworks, 224 Sussex Ave., or pick up from Boy Scout Troop 14. Tickets are $7-$9 adults, $5-$7 for children 4-17, $5-$7 for seniors. Family rates available. The event is a fundraiser for Troop 14.
Benefit auction: Numerous antiques and projects — including dressers with and without mirrors, buffet upper cabinetry, church pews and press-back chairs — are just a sampling of items available from the estate of John Hill at an auction benefiting Toys for Kids Plus. 12th annual Denim & Diamonds: A fundraising event presented by the Karen Hilburn Breast and Cervical Cancer Fund, a chapter of Mason General Hospital Foundation, will be at 4 p.m. at the Alderbrook Resort & Spa in Union. Tickets are $50 per person with all proceeds to benefit women in the community needing assistance to pay for the diagnosis and treatment of breast and cervical cancers. Evening of Gospel music: The Liberty Quartet, a traditional Southern gospel quartet from Boise, will perform at 6 p.m. at the Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, 940 Israel Road, Tumwater. Sharing the platform with Liberty Quartet will be Olympia’s Lighthouse Gospel Quartet.

Freedom from Falls: Mason County Senior Activities Association is partnering with Mason General Hospital and Family of Clinics for the 3rd annual Fall Prevention event from 9:30 a.m.- 2 p.m., at Mason County Senior Activities Center at the Pavilion, 190 W Sentry Drive, Shelton. Program is free amd also has free drop-in health stations, and will include blood pressure checks, and eye glass cleaning and adjustments. The Senior Nutrition Program lunch is available at noon. For the 60 and older, the suggested (but not required) donation is $3-$5 per person. For those under 60, the required cost is $6.25 per person. Information and reservation, call 360-426-7374.
Conference week half-day camps: The Commons at Fertile Ground is offering half-day camps on Tuesday and Friday from noon-5:30 p.m. This is conference week for the Olympia School District. Children will spend the afternoon creating garden crafts and making their own afternoon snacks in our beautiful garden and outdoor kitchen. This camp is appropriate for children ages 6-10. Avanti Haunted School: Avanti High School hosts its third-annual Haunted School event 5:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 28-30in the Knox Building, 1113 Legion Way SE. The cost is $5 per person. The students run this event as a fundraiser for the spring trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. Information: 360-596-7900.
