A woman who accidentally crashed into an Olympia apartment complex may have scared away a burglar.
The Olympia Police Department responded to the scene Aug. 19 in the Abbey Lane Apartments, 522 Lilly Road NE.
Police say a woman was at the complex to assist a disabled friend. As she was leaving in her 2007 Honda Ridgeline, she hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, sending the SUV over the curb and striking another vehicle before crashing into the building.
The resident of the damaged apartment returned home after learning of the accident, police say. While surveying the apartment for damage, the resident discovered her bedroom window was open with the window blinds torn up and the window screen in the bushes outside.
Never miss a local story.
She told police her window had been closed when she left earlier that day. She also said her front and back doors, which were found unlocked, had been locked before she left, according to police.
Police say nothing was stolen, and that it appeared to an attempted burglar was scared off when the vehicle crashed into the building. Police report there are no suspects and that the SUV driver was not ticketed.
