Washington Huskies men's soccer introduces new ‘Identity Jersey' for 2026 season
The Washington men's soccer team unveiled a new "Identity Jersey" last week, featuring a unique thumbprint design layered on a white jersey that celebrates the 2025 national championship win. It's a dual-purpose jersey that's also intended to help drive season ticket sales.
Part of the inspiration came from a jersey that former UW soccer player Rhys Gourdie gifted to head coach Jamie Clark's son. Gourdie's father is a director on the board of Greenock Morton Football Club, who produced a home kit in 2024 that featured the names of all their season ticket holders.
The design stuck with Clark, and when the idea for a fingerprint jersey came up, Clark proposed including UW's season ticket holder names.
"Whoever our season ticket holders are, that's going to be our unique group of our most loyal fans," Clark said. "We can actually put their identity onto our jersey and wear it every game."
"We're very much a Washington and community based team, in terms of our players and our supporters in our stands," Clark added.
It's a way to honor the die-hard supporters, and, hopefully, to encourage people to purchase season tickets ahead in advance to support the team. Last year, the program won their first NCAA national championship when they defeated NC State 3-2 in overtime.
This season, the team is looking to build on that momentum, though things will look slightly different as five players were selected in the MLS draft just days after the tournament.

In addition to the fingerprint, the jersey features details including the phrase "side by side," a reference to the team's relationship with the fans in the collar and star above the "W" as a nod to the first national championship win in program history.
Anyone who purchases season tickets will have their name included on the jersey, and those who buy the premium package before May 15 will receive their own jersey. Clark said he doesn't know how many season tickets the program will sell, but no matter the number, the names will be worked into the design.
"Usually as a coach, you present an idea and you wait for the roadblocks," Clark explained. "And there were somehow not a lot of roadblocks with this one."
