Seahawks add depth at tight end, sign Harrison Bryant
The Seahawks added depth to their tight end corps Wednesday by signing seven-year veteran Harrison Bryant, who spent last season with the Houston Texans.
Bryant was the 2019 winner of the John Mackey Award as the best tight end in college football while playing at Florida Atlantic when he had 65 receptions for 1,004 yards and entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Browns in 2020.
After four seasons, 65 games and 30 starts with the Browns he spent the 2024 season with the Raiders and last year with the Texans.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 242 pounds, Bryant has 100 receptions for 884 yards and 10 touchdowns in his NFL career. He played 173 snaps in 12 games last year for Houston with two receptions on seven targets, used on more than half of his snaps (95) as a run blocker, according to Pro Football Focus.
The Seahawks had just four tight ends on the roster before signing Bryant - AJ Barner, Elijah Arroyo, Eric Saubert and Nick Kallerup. The Seahawks are reported to have reached agreement with Lance Mason of Wisconsin as an undrafted free agent.
Including Mason, the addition of Bryant will give them six as the offseason program enters the second phase next week when teams can begin on-field workouts.
The Seahawks are completing the second week of the first phase of the offseason program when only meetings, strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation is allowed.
Coach Mike Macdonald has said previously that many veterans were allowed to stay home during the first phase of the offseason program - which is officially voluntary - as a little extra break following the run to the Super Bowl title.
But it's expected that most/all players will be back at the VMAC on Monday when phase two kicks off.
The Seahawks have 83 players on their roster. They can have up to 91. They reportedly have commitments from seven undrafted free agents.
Those UDFAs will join with the team's eight draft picks for rookie minicamp Thursday through Saturday and there could be more roster shuffling following that camp and the beginning of phase two next week.
