Jets RB Breece Hall Shares Emotional Reaction to Contract Extension

The New York Jets‘ roster has been a revolving door.

It sent shockwaves through the NFL when the Jets traded for veteran quarterback Geno Smith, who was the Jets’ second-round pick in 2013 and saw his acrimonious tenure in Florham Park end in 2017. Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson will return from his season-ending knee injury, and the Jets added former Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq and former Indiana receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in the first round of April’s 2026 NFL Draft.

Breece Hall has been in the backfield the entire time - the one constant - and the Jets just ensured that remains the case for the foreseeable future.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Hall has agreed to a three-year, $45.75 million contract extension with the Jets. New York had previously placed the nonexclusive franchise tag on Hall on March 3.

The Jets selected Hall in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, so this is his first big NFL payday, and he reacted accordingly.

“[Red heart emoji] Shoutout everyone in my corner,” Hall wrote on X in response to NFL insider Jordan Schultz’s post about his new contract.

“Cried for the first time since I tore my ACL,” Hall wrote in a separate X post. “This day really hit different for me, man [prayer-hands emoji].”

Hall immediately established himself as a burgeoning star as a rookie. He posted 463 yards and four touchdowns as a rusher, plus 218 yards and one touchdown as a receiver, in his first seven games. Then, he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October 2022.

Hall bounced back and played a full season in 2023 - posting 994 yards and five touchdowns on 223 carries, plus 591 yards and four touchdowns on 76 catches. He has played in 16 regular-season games the past two seasons, and he notched his first career 1,000-yard campaign last year.

If the Jets turn it around and post their first winning season since 2015 - even better if they make the playoffs for the first time since 2010 - then they’ll be applauded for their conviction in keeping a core player.

But if the Jets continue to be the Jets, they’ll likely be criticized for holding on to Hall at last November’s trade deadline when they held a fire sale for All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner and All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
