WNBA Fans Urge Fever to Sign Ex-Caitlin Clark Teammate After She Was Cut

During their days at the University of Iowa, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin were a formidable duo.

Clark tore through the NCAA as the best player in college basketball, and Martin was a formidable sidekick, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2024.

Since getting to the WNBA, Clark and Martin have been on divergent paths. Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, won WNBA Rookie of the Year and was an All-WNBA selection. She even finished fourth in MVP voting that year.

Though she missed most of last season with multiple injuries, Clark is still the face of the WNBA.

Martin, however, has been a depth player in her two seasons - one with the Las Vegas Aces and another with the Golden State Valkyries. Martin got some bad news this week as the Valkyries announced she was cut days before the start of the 2026 season.

Martin likely won't find a starting role anywhere, but she could be a solid add for a team needing guard depth. While the Fever are pretty stoked up on guards, their fans still think the team should add Martin in hopes she and Clark could rekindle their Iowa magic.

"Go get her @IndianaFever," one fan advocated.

"Okay @IndianaFever. You know the move!๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ”ฅ," another fan replied.

"Indiana Fever front office if you can hear me PLEASEEEEE LISTENNNNNNN," exclaimed a third fan.

"If the @IndianaFever claim her off waivers-even for a developmental slot-they aren't just adding depth; they're securing a sellout crowd. Bringing that Iowa chemistry to Gainbridge Fieldhouse is a guaranteed marketing masterstroke," one user stated.

"Fever will do their best to make sure she has a team soon &who knows maybe she will end up with๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿคฉsoon w her sis Cc. anything is possible.๐Ÿ™‚โค๏ธ," another user shared.

The Fever drafted South Carolina's Raven Johnson with their first-round pick in last month's draft.

In addition to Johnson, Indiana has a strong stable of guards that includes Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Tyasha Harris, Lexie Hull, All-Star Kelsey Mitchell, Justine Pissott, and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough.
