Mariners reinstate reliever Matt Brash from injured list

Setup reliever Matt Brash was activated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday morning ahead of the Mariners' series finale against the Chicago White Sox.

Brash, 28, landed on the IL on May 1 with right lat inflammation.

He made two rehab appearances with Triple-A Tacoma over the past week.

Brash got back into action right away, striking out two and allowing one hit in a scoreless seventh inning in the Mariners' 5-4 win. In his 15 appearances with the Mariners this season, Brash has not allowed an earned run in 12 1/3 innings, with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

The Mariners are 13-2 when Brash appears in a game.

Rookie left-hander Robinson Ortiz was optioned back to Triple-A to make room for Brash in the bullpen.

Left-hander Gabe Speier (shoulder inflammation) might not be far behind Brash. Speier has said he's been feeling much better in recent days and he was scheduled to begin his rehab assignment Wednesday night in Everett with the High-A AquaSox.
