NBA Fans React To League 'Warning' Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama was in no mood to talk to the media after his San Antonio Spurs dropped Game 5 to the Oklahoma City Thunder and leaves them on the brink of elimination. That may have been fine for the fans, but it's not okay with the NBA.

According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Wembanyama has been given a formal warning for violating the NBA's media access rules. He will not be fined though.

"The NBA has warned the Spurs' Victor Wembanyama for violating media access rules. Wembanyama bypassed media obligations after Game 5 on Tuesday night," Charania wrote on X.

Double Standards?

As you can probably guess, fans weren't at all pleased to see that Wembanyama gets a slap on the wrist when other players have been fined substantially for similar actions.

"They fined LeBron $25k for this and made him do a public apology. Wemby's being treated like a baby," one user remarked on X.

"Have they really? When are they going to warn the Thunder about what they do too? Peanuts to an elephant, fine him and get it over with," wrote another.

"First he almost killed Naz Reid, then he told Biyomboi to injure McCain, and now this? Don't ever want to hear anyone call this guy 'ethical' again," a third wrote.

"No fine for the elbow and no fine for skipping the media? Is that standard procedure?"

"He should be fined just like he should have been fined for his deliberate and dangerous elbow. Weird how the guy has won nothing yet they treat him like the golden child. Already 8 feet tall and gets every advantage from the league."

"No suspension or fine for elbowing a guy in the neck. No fine for skipping media access postgame. The way they let this kid do whatever he wants with no punishment is astounding."

Unfortunately for Wembanyama, his team now faces elimination in San Antonio tomorrow. And even if he leads the Spurs to a win, he has to take them straight back to Oklahoma City and get another win there just to face the New York Knicks on substantially less rest in the NBA Finals.

Things are looking bleak for his NBA title chances right now.
