NFL Encouraged To Offer Team-Specific 'Sunday Ticket' Packages
The NFL is being encouraged to change its "Sunday Ticket" offer for the sake of fans.
The league has had a special "Sunday Ticket" package for more than 20 years. The package, which allows NFL fans to watch every out-of-market game, was first part of DirecTV. In recent years, the package has moved from DirecTV to YouTube TV.
However, not all games are included, like games that air exclusively on streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Peacock, etc.
However, Fox News contributor Clay Travis has a suggestion for the league: Come up with a new "Sunday Ticket" package for fans.
Travis is proposing that the league make up a better package for the sake of the NFL's fan base.
Should NFL have new 'Sunday Ticket' package?
Travis thinks that the NFL should allow fans to purchase a package strictly for the one team they want to follow. The NBA and MLB already do this, to some extent.
"In my opinion, the NFL should offer single-team options in addition to the entire NFL Sunday Ticket," Travis said in D.C. at Thursday's examination of the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.
"So, in general, if an entity is not serving the marketplace what the marketplace is demanding, that would raise questions about why they're doing that. From a business perspective, I think the answer is because they can charge 480-somewhat dollars for the NFL Sunday Ticket if they include all those games.
"If they only sold individual games, what it appears the vast majority of fans would prefer, they might only be able to charge $80 or $100. So they are making hundreds of millions of dollars on a product that the average NFL fan, if given the option to choose between, would likely not pick."
It's unlikely that this should happen, of course, considering how much the NFL likes money.
Still, it would be nice.
