NBA Finals Game 4 Scores and Top Performers: Knicks Complete Historic 29-Point Comeback

The San Antonio Spurs got off to a hot start with a 41-22 first quarter in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Their lead ballooned to as many as 29 points in the second quarter before they entered halftime with a 27-point advantage.

At that point, it looked like the Spurs were on their way to an easy win to tie the series at 2-2. However, the Knicks had other plans and staged an incredible second-half comeback to win by one point, 107-106.

New York used a 20-4 run in the fourth quarter to make it a four-point game with under five minutes left. While the Spurs tried to regain their momentum, they simply couldn't slow down the Knicks.

The Knicks finally took the lead with under 90 seconds left after Jalen Brunson scored five straight points. Stephon Castle's free throws, however, gave the Spurs a 106-105 advantage in the final 30 seconds.

It appeared the Spurs finally got a break when Brunson missed a floater with 16 seconds left, but De'Aaron Fox had his shot blocked by OG Anunoby on the ensuing possession. A foul by Fox seconds later gave the Knicks possession and another chance to win the game.

Brunson tried to end the Spurs with a 30-foot triple but missed. In a wild turn of events, however, Anunoby came up clutch by tipping the ball in after Brunson's miss.

NBA Finals Game 4 Top Performers

The Knicks' starters struggled mightily in the game, with Karl-Anthony Towns' impact limited due to early foul troubles. Fortunately for them, Brunson and Anunoby caught fire offensively.

Brunson led the team in scoring with 36 points on 12-of-25 shooting, along with five rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Anunoby, for his part, recorded 33 points on an efficient 10-of-15 shooting.

Victor Wembanyama led the way for the Spurs with 24 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Dylan Harper added 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

NBA Finals History

The Knicks erasing the Spurs' 29-point lead marks the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. Prior to that, the Boston Celtics held the record after overcoming a 24-point deficit to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the 2008 NBA Finals.

For what it's worth, the Spurs set several records in the game as well. They made 14 triples in the first half, which is the most in the history of the NBA Finals. Their 27-point lead after two quarters was also the largest halftime lead by a road team in NBA Finals history.
