Five finalists for The Columbian All-Region multi-sport female athlete of the year announced
Jaila Ellis, Riley Seymer and Ella Thompson have been multi-sport athletes since they were freshmen. They recently graduated, cementing their standout careers.
Courtney Neal and Cameron Watson are still in the process of building their multi-sport legacies.
Ellis of Heritage, Seymer of Seton Catholic and Thompson of Camas have all earned All-Region honors in at least one sport the past two years. All will continue their careers in college.
Neal and Watson have more chapters to write.
Neal, an Evergreen sophomore, earned all-league honors in three sports. Watson, a Skyview junior, played a starring role on basketball and soccer teams that excelled.
All five are more than qualified as finalists for The Columbian's All-Region multi-sport female athlete of the year.
The winner will be announced at The Columbian's All-Region Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 17 at the Skyview High School Auditorium.
Jaila Ellis
A senior, Ellis earned all-region honors in basketball and softball. She was the leading scorer on the Heritage basketball team, averaging more than 16 points per game.
This spring, she was selected to the All-Region softball team for a fourth consecutive year. She had a team-high .576 batting average and seven home runs. In the pitcher's circle, she struck out 66 batters in 56 innings.
Next fall, Ellis will play softball at Delaware State University.
Courtney Neal
Just a sophomore, Neal earned all-league honors in volleyball, basketball and track and field. She was a first-team all-league volleyball player this fall as an outside hitter.
In the winter, she earned second-team all-league honors for an Evergreen basketball team that made school history. The Plainsmen placed sixth at the 3A state tournament, capturing the program's first state trophy.
This spring, Neal placed fifth in the state in the 100 hurdles.
Riley Seymer
A senior, Seymer was a volleyball, basketball and track and field standout. She earned second-team all-league honors in volleyball as the Cougars reached the state tournament for the second year in a row.
In basketball, she was the 1A Trico League player of the year and All-Region selection. Seymer became just the second player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
In track and field this spring, Seymer was district runner-up in the discus and placed seventh in that event at the 1A state meet.
Ella Thompson
The All-Region volleyball player of the year, Thompson averaged nearly five kills per set as the Papermakers went undefeated in 4A GSHL play. The senior led Camas to fifth place at the state tournament for the program's third-consecutive top-six finish.
A lifelong track and field athlete, Thompson placed second in the javelin and sixth in the high jump.
Thompson will attend the University of Miami-Florida, where she will play volleyball.
Cameron Watson

This winter, Watson was a big reason Skyview's girls basketball team earned its most wins in a decade.
