Jets Head Coach Reveals Plan for New York's ‘Three-Headed Monster' in 2026

Very little went right for the New York Jets during the 2025 season, including at the running back position.

When Braelon Allen went down with a sprained MCL during a Week 4 matchup with the divisional rival Miami Dolphins, the Jets‘ plan for their stable of ball carriers was dashed, not even a quarter of the way through the year. However, with Allen having endured a lengthy rehab, he is trending toward a return. That will allow the Jets to operate how they envisioned a year ago, with a trio of dangerous threats out of the backfield.

“That was the vision, with (Allen, Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis) last year,” said coach Aaron Glenn on June 10. “And obviously that didn’t come to fruition.”

Glenn added: “I’m just looking forward to seeing (Allen) get out in camp and be a part of that three-headed monster, I call them, as far as running backs.”

Hall led the Jets with 1,065 rushing yards on 243 attempts a season ago, averaging 4.4 yards per carry, while Davis averaged 5.5 yards per tote as the team’s change-of-pace ball carrier. Allen wasn’t able to contribute much a season ago, but he displayed flashes during his rookie year, recording 334 rushing yards on 92 attempts and adding 19 receptions for 148 yards and a touchdown.

“Obviously, you know you can use him in the running game, but to be able to use him in the passing game,” said Glenn as far as Allen’s strengths as a running back.

That has Glenn optimistic as the Jets move forward into the 2026 campaign. On Tuesday, New York will begin mandatory minicamp, which is scheduled from June 16 to June 18. Thus far through the team’s nine-week offseason workout program, Glenn has been pleased with his team’s progress.

“I’d say the mental part,” said Glenn. “I’ve been impressed with our guys really understanding and learning what the scheme is about.”

New York finished 3-14 a season ago. However, after a few offseason additions, including Allen’s return and the free-agent signing of quarterback Geno Smith, who returns for his second stint with the team, the Jets are hoping for more in 2026.
