Shohei Ohtani Personal Announcement Made by Dodgers

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way superstar, has been having yet another phenomenal season in 2026. The four-time MVP has been incredible at the plate and on the mound for the two-time defending World Series champions.

As a batter, Ohtani has put up a slash line of .296/.418/.545 with an OPS of .962, totaling 15 home runs and 42 RBIs. He's also shown off his speed on occasion, stealing six bases. As for his pitching, the 31-year-old has been even better. Across 12 starts, he's pitched to a 1.47 ERA in 73 2/3 innings pitched, totaling 78 strikeouts and 22 walks.

While the Japanese native's play on the field has made him a worldwide phenomenon, his personal life has also been in the spotlight throughout his career.

Ohtani is married to Mamiko Tanaka, a former Japanese professional basketball player who played four professional seasons in her home country from 2019 to 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in April of last year, and they are expecting another soon.

On Friday, the Dodgers announced that Ohtani was away from the club on paternity to welcome his second child with his wife.

"Shohei Ohtani is away from the team on paternity," the team said in a post on X. "He is expected to be back at some point this weekend."

This is some exciting news for Ohtani and his family, who are expected to grow to four in the coming days. Ohtani was not listed in the Dodgers' lineup for their game against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, but he was not put on the paternity list, as he is expected to be back with the team shortly.
