Christopher Bell Plans to Leave San Diego Race After First Caution
It looks like Joe Gibbs Racing is going to give Brent Crews his first laps in the NASCARCup Series. Christopher Bell will start today's race at Naval Base Coronado, but he will be getting out of the car and letting his 18-year-old relief driver take over after the first caution.
Marty Snider on Prime Video's pre-race show reported the plan for Christopher Bell's team. Racing at the Tricky Triangle at Pocono wasn't a big deal. Racing on an aggressive, difficult street course that has already had its fair share of massive hits this weekend, and it only makes sense.
This is a massive opportunity for Brent Crews. He is a young driver, but the future of Joe Gibbs Racing. As the heir-apparent to the No. 11 car after Denny Hamlin retires, Crews will get his first run of real Cup Series action later his afternoon.
