Packers Rookie Could Be a Surprise Starter in 2026
The Green Bay Packers look promising right now.
But that’s always the case for them this time of year. They have promise, with quarterback Jordan Love and a strong offense. But, what they don’t have is a recent Super Bowl win.
So, the rookies are important for the Packers this season. If they want to get to the playoffs and be a real NFC contender, they absolutely have to rely on their rookies for energy and budding talent.
One rookie who could surprise in 2026 is Chris McClellan. With Micah Parsons still dealing with an injury, that opens the door to rookies like McClellan to become an important piece of the puzzle, especially early in the season.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report thinks he’s the candidate most likely to bloom this season. “McClellan, whom the Packers selected with this year’s 77th overall pick, should quickly become a featured part of Green Bay’s revamped front,” he writes. “At 313 pounds with 34-inch arms, McClellan brings good size and length to the group. Plus, he’s athletic enough to align at multiple positions.”
My Take: Chris McClellan Could Be a Breakout Star in 2026
McClellan has the tools to become one of the Packers’ most pleasant surprises this season. The defensive lineman brings an appealing mix of size, strength and athleticism that fits Green Bay’s preference for versatile defenders.
It’s happening at just the right time for him, too. Right now, the Packers need help on defense. McClellan flashes the ability to disrupt plays both as a run defender and interior pass rusher, giving coaches multiple ways to use him. So, again, versatility is key with what he brings to the Packers.

More importantly, he plays with a physical edge that stands out on film. With the Packers continuing to build around a young roster, opportunities should be available for players who earn trust early. McClellan has the talent to do exactly that.
