Sweater weather is officially upon us (cue the iconic SNL skit). But if you live in the South, like myself, you’ll likely find yourself employing the “layering method” when choosing your outfit for the day. When it’s 40 degrees in the mornings and evenings, yet 70–80 degrees during the day, you’ll need something warm that’s easily removable yet chic enough to punctuate a look. That’s why I love this ZESICA cardigan, which is available on Amazon and happens to be one of the coziest sweaters I own. So, how do I love it? Let me count the ways.

ZESICA Open Front Knitted Cardigan

I was initially drawn to this cardigan because it comes in red plaid, which is both my favorite pattern and my favorite color (and the central color scheme of my entire closet). In fact, I’m quite sure I came across it after typing “red cardigans for women” into the Amazon search bar, and it was one of the first options that popped up. Incidentally, after I ordered it (which was roughly two years ago), I was informed that this particular color was backordered, and the shipment would be delayed. But, since good things come to those who wait, I resisted the temptation to cancel my order and patiently stuck around for this sweater to arrive — and I’m very glad I did.

For starters, this sweater is nice and thick, making it perfect for when it’s too chilly for a T-shirt, yet not quite cold enough for a full-fledged winter coat. It’s made of a super-soft viscose/nylon/polyester blend and is machine-washable. It has an oversized fit with an open front (no buttons), and its longer length means it’ll cover your derriere if you want to throw it on over a pair of leggings. And the best part? It has pockets! (And they’re actually deep enough to put things like a phone, wallet or keys in.)

If you’re not a fan of red plaid (hey, different strokes for different folks), this cardigan comes in a total of 23 colors and patterns, including a black-and-white animal print and a Halloween-themed pumpkin design. Sizes run from small (4-6) to XL (16-18), and while I normally take a large in most sweaters, I opted for an XL to give even more room for comfort. Speaking of, this cardigan is so comfy that I often find myself wearing it in place of a robe when lounging around the house in my PJs. I also love throwing it on over a simple T-shirt to look at least somewhat put-together on Zoom calls when I’m working from home.

Amazon customers seem to agree with me, too — in fact, this sweater has over 13,000 five-star ratings and over 2,000 glowing reviews. “This cardigan is beautiful,” said one reviewer. “Soooo soft and comfortable and well made.” Another reviewer also praised the soft, comfy material of this cardigan, as well as the big pockets and long length. “When I tell you somehow this single sweater checks ALL THE BOXES, I’m not kidding!”

This sweater normally runs around $60, but right now you can get it for 28% off, which brings the price to $42.99. (Plus, you can clip an extra 20% off coupon to really get it for a great price.) And for a cardigan this cute and comfy, that’s pretty hard to beat. Grab it now while the savings are here — and maybe throw in an extra as a holiday gift for the cardigan connoisseur in your life.
