Garlic, garlic and more garlic at Chehalis fest

In celebration of “The Stinking Rose,” the Chehalis Garlic Fest and Craft Show will cover the gamut of everything garlic. Obviously there will be garlic-themed cuisine, but there also will be garlic arts and crafts and kids activities. Pack your breath mints and come out for three days of fun, from noon-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds, 2555 N. OLT Jazz Club benefit concerts

Support the Olympia Little Theatre by attending one of two benefit performances of LaVon Hardison and Friends, at 7:25 p.m. Saturday and 1:55 p.m. Sunday at the theater, 1925 Miller Ave. NE. Saturday’s show features Hardison with pianist Jonas Meyers; Sunday will feature her and Vince Brown as the Ruby & Red jazz duo. Be a locavore

Olympia’s Love Our Local Fest has grown into a major event celebrating everything local. It features some of Olympia’s most popular bands as well as locally made foods, clothing, housewares and more. Female astronomy pioneers celebrated in play

Olympia Little Theatre presents “Silent Sky” starting Thursday. The historically accurate play depicts the “Harvard computers,” a group of women who were early 20th-century pioneers in astronomy and whose work was credited to their male counterparts for a century. Come out to the theater at1925 Miller Ave NE for shows at 7:20 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 1:55 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 10. Opening weekend tickets are $9-$11, Thursday performances are $11-$13, and weekend shows are $13-$15. Go to olympialittletheatre.org to get yours.

Author Brenda Peterson shares about American wolves

Wolves are in the news because they are being returned to their native territories with surprising results. Meet author Brenda Peterson and wolf researcher Suzanne Asha Stone when they talk about wolves and Peterson’s book “Wolf Nation: The Life, Death, and Return of Wild American Wolves.” Their presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Olympia Timberland Library, 313 Eighth Ave. SE. Anniversary party with wine, food and fun

Medicine Creek Winery will celebrate its 12-year anniversary with Music, Wine, Food and Friends starting at 3 p.m. Saturday. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the garden, food, and wine, as well as music provided by Ethan Tucker from 3-5 p.m. and the Randy Linder Band playing until 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 and include food and one glass of wine. 40th anniversary screening of “3 Women”

Film director Robert Altman’s “3 Women” was inspired by a dream Altman had. It opened to much acclaim in 1977 at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Forty years later, the Olympia Film Society will screen it, at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE. The box office opens 30 minutes before showtime.
