Out and About: Head to Washington Center for guitar music, fine art or laughs

Guitar gathering

What excites a guitar geek more than one virtuoso player? Four guitar gods sharing a stage at the International Guitar Night, stopping Tuesday, Jan. 18 in Olympia. The 22nd tour features Italian acoustic rocker Luca Stricagnoli, progressive finger-style player Thu Le of Vietnam, Hawaiian slack key master Jim Kimo West and Latin swing player Lulo Reinhardt of Germany. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia. Tickets are $25-$57, with discounts for military. The center requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for those 12 and older.

Abundant art

Work by 34 Olympia artists — all members of the Olympia Art League — is on view through Feb. 28 in the lobby gallery of the Washington Center for the Performing Arts. Among the media featured in the show are watercolor, acrylic and fiber. Check it out when you’re at a show, or email info@washingtoncenter.org or call 360-753-8585 to make an appointment to see the work between noon and 4 p.m. on a weekday. The center requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for those 12 and older.

Laugh it up

Edmonton comic Sterling Scott says he’s so Canadian that when a drunk man accidentally sent spit bubbles his way, Scott licked his lips rather than embarrass the spitter. Does the comedian still tell this joke (which seems, to judge by his YouTube videos, to have been one of his favorites) in the wake of the pandemic? Find out Thursday, Jan. 20, at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts. Scott is headlining the latest edition of Comedy Underground, which also features Jaren George and Amanda Arnold. The show, recommended for ages 18 and older, starts at 7:30 p.m. in the center’s Black Box. Tickets are $28, with discounts for military. The center requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for those 12 and older.

After seeing the darkly funny “Richard III” update “Teenage Dick” — streaming through Sunday, Jan. 16 — freelance writer Molly Gilmore hopes that theater companies continue to offer streaming even when (if?) crowded theaters feel safe. She talks about what’s happening in Olympia and beyond with 95.3 KGY-FM’s Michael Stein from 3 to 4 p.m. Fridays.
