Beer and beyond in Tumwater

Tumwater celebrates its brewing history — and serves a multitude of beverages — at the Artesian Brewfest, happening Saturday, Aug. 20. The festival, held in the shadow of the former Olympia Brewery, offers not only beer, but also cider, wine and spirits. The city will keep the party going with music, food vendors, super-sized beer pong, stein-holding contests and more. The festival happens from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course Driving Range, 4611 Tumwater Valley Drive SE, Tumwater. Tickets are $30 if you buy online before 12:30 p.m. Saturday, $35 at the door. (No cash will be accepted at the gate; debit and credit cards only.) Designated driver tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Parking is $10. All attendees must be 21 or over.

All’s fair in Centralia

Rides, animals, food that invites you to forget dietary restrictions: It’s all there at the Southwest Washington Fair, which started Wednesdsay and continues through Sunday, Aug. 21. In addition to such conventional competitions as prize pig and best quilt, the fair boasts lawnmower races and diaper derbies. There are numerous free concerts, too. The Olympian’s pick: Lady Gaga tribute act Poker Face, performing at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, on the Saloon Stage. The fairgrounds is at 909 S. Gold St., Centralia. Tickets are $10 general admission, $6 for seniors, children 6-12 and military.

Get punky at LoveOly

Headlining LoveOly Summer Fest on Saturday, Aug. 20, is Portland dance-punk trio J. Graves. The band, fronted by Jessa Graves, describes its music as “tense relationship rock,” and its upcoming album is called “Fortress of Fun.” (Gregory Bortnichak and Kelsey Magnuson open.) Besides music, the Olympia Downtown Alliance’s street party includes interactive art installations, games, activities for kids and a beer (and cider) garden. It’s all happening from 1 to 7 p.m. — with music starting at 4 p.m. — at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Washington Street. The 2022 edition of LoveOly Summer Fest wraps up Saturday, Aug. 27 with a concert by Tacoma garage rock outfit Girl Trouble.
