What to do with your weekend? Here are some ideas around Thurston County
Get in the Halloween mood
Visit Bucoda in south Thurston County during October for the Boo-Coda Spook-Tacular, a month of spooky fun. On Saturday, the SambaOlywa dance troop (dressed in skeleton costumes) will perform at noon. A Hearse Procession and viewing will take place on Main Street immediately after the dance performance and will be led by the Tenino High School Marching Band playing New Orleans-style funeral music. Admission is free. The town also hosts the Boo-Coda Haunted House in a 1939 gymnasium owned by the town which is believed to be haunted. It will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 403 N. Nenant St.; cost is $13 general admission, $20 VIP ticket. More info about festivities is at https://boo-coda.com/.
Get your classic rock here
Need a dose of classic rock with a side of metal? Head to Skookum Creek Event Center at Little Creek Casino in Kamilche on Saturday night to see 1980s rock band Skid Row with 1970s metal band Quiet Riot. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $49 to $69. But don’t bring your kids — you must be 21 and over to attend.
Quilt extravaganza
For the first time, seven local quilt groups and one weaving group have come together for the Olympia Quilt Festival, where they will present a grand showing of their talents at three separate locations: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1601 North St. SE, Olympia; Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1925 Boulevard Road SE, Olympia; and Lacey Timberland Library, 500 College St NE, Lacey. Admission of $10 gets you in to both shows at the churches; the library show is free; kids 12 and under also get in free. On display will be quilts of all sizes and styles, as well as hand woven items, wearables, home decor, and dolls. Get your scissors, knives or tools sharpened at the Good Shepherd show. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
