Weekend plans? Vaudeville, choral music and chowder contest on tap in Thurston County
Vaudeville show returns to small stage!
The 16th annual Lord Franzannian’s Royal Olympian Spectacular Vaudeville Show is back for two weekends of romping, hilarious fun. Hosted by storyteller Elizabeth Lord, this fast-paced variety show offers music, sketch comedy, acrobats, magic, juggling, storytelling, dance, and feats of amazement performed by local talent. Proceeds from show ticket sales benefit working performers and BigShowCity, a non-profit Performing Arts Organization whose mission is to help burgeoning Olympia artists. Shows will be at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Oct. 14-16 and Oct. 21-23, plus two matinee performances for all ages at 2 p.m. Sunday Oct. 16 and 23 at Wild Man Brewing Gastro Pub (formerly Octapas), 414 E. Fourth Ave. in downtown Olympia. Admission is $15-$25, with $7 youth tickets for the matinees. Buy tickets at brownpapertickets online or at the door night of show (cash, check or Venmo), but no one will be turned away due to lack of cash.
40 years of Masterworks
Masterworks Choral Ensemble will launch its 40th anniversary season with highlights and showstoppers from past shows and celebrate its commissioned works, women composers, Celtic connections, social justice, sacred elements, humor in music and more. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, on the main stage of the Minnaert Center for the Arts at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia. Tickets are $24 for adults, $20 for seniors, students and military, and $12 for youth — plus at $4 service fee.
Chow down on chowder
Lacey Hawks Prairie Rotary is hosting the first of what it plans to be an annual South Sound Clam Chowder Competition from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Ave. SE. Local restaurant and non-profit teams will compete and visitors will vote for the best at the fundraising event. Tickets are $25 which provide eight chowder tastes and heavy appetizer stations including steamer clams, sourdough bread, mac and cheese, grilled cheese, and dessert. Each chowder team also will have a fundraising raffle item at their table.
