Catch a Wave in Lacey
Lacey in Tune’s concert and movie nights wrap up Friday, Aug. 4, with a seaworthy and summer-perfect duo — Beach Boys cover act Catch a Wave and “Moana,” the Disney movie about an adventurous teen on a quest to save her people. Catch a Wave re-creates the surfin’ sound of the Boys with harmony singing and white instruments. The Los Angeles-based Wave was chosen to perform at the California Beach Boys state landmark dedication ceremony in 2005. The surfing safari begins at 7 p.m. in Huntamer Park, 618 Woodland Square Loop SE, Lacey, with the 2016 animated film following at dusk on an 18-foot-by-18-foot screen. Bring your own chairs, blankets, etc. You can bring a picnic or buy concessions at the park.
Fleetwood Mac sounds at the Port
The Port of Olympia is wrapping up its Summer Nights at the Port on Saturday, Aug. 5, with a concert by Fleetwood Mac tribute outfit The Little Lies. The seaside party, with a view of the water and the Olympic Mountains beyond, kicks off at 5 p.m. at the port’s NorthPoint, 1210 Marine Drive NE, Olympia. There’ll be food trucks and beverages, including Headless Mumby beer. The music by the Seattle-based Lies happens from 6 to 8 p.m. The people at the port suggest bringing chairs and blankets and dressing in layers.
Renowned rockers do free show
The band Morgan and the Organ Donors — whose lineup includes Bikini Kill’s Tobi Vail — is playing a hometown show Sunday afternoon, Aug. 6, as part of Three Magnets’ Scherler Sundays. Also performing at the concert: Chance of Ghosts and Xohno.) Vail and fellow Donors James Maeda, Olivia Ness and Sara Peté have been playing at The Brotherhood Lounge each December for nearly a decade. They’ve recently raised their profile with an album, “M.O.D.s,” released in April, and a slot at this year’s Bumbershoot. Scherler Sundays, continuing through Aug. 13, begins at 3 p.m. behind the Carnegie Library, 620 Franklin St. SE, Olympia.
Freelance writer Molly Gilmore talks about what’s happening in Olympia and beyond with 95.3 KGY-FM’s Michael Stein from 3 to 4 p.m. Fridays.
