Bowl with The Dude, ice skate in Olympia or listen to Seattle Pro Musica this weekend
Ice escapades
Oly on Ice, the seasonal indoor ice rink at Isthmus Park, 529 Fourth Ave. W., Olympia, is now open every day except Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) through Jan. 15. Admission, which includes skate rental and at least 75 minutes of skating time, is $9-$15 for skaters ages 4 and older and $5 for toddlers 3 and younger. There are special events at the rink, too, beginning with a meet-and-greet with dancers from Studio West Dance Theatre’s “The Nutcracker,” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19. You can get advance tickets online or buy them at the rink if there’s room. Season passes are available, too.
Sweet sounds
The highly regarded Seattle Pro Musica will celebrate “A Celtic Winter” Sunday, Nov. 19, in Olympia. The internationally acclaimed group, celebrating its 51st season, is performing as part of St. John’s Episcopal Church’s concert series. The concert of music from Ireland, Wales and Scotland will include rousing folk songs, soothing lullabies, inspiring choral music and a beautiful procession. The performance begins at 3 p.m. at the church, 114 20th Ave. SE, Olympia. Admission is by donation with $20 suggested and no one turned away for lack of funds. Also performing on the weekend is the Olympia Peace Choir, which will sing at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, in the Washington State Capitol Rotunda. Admission to the choir’s “Freedom Is Coming” is free, with donations to support the choir gratefully accepted.
Reunite with the Dude
It’s been 25 years since Joel Cohen’s “The Big Lebowski” hit theaters. The “generation-defining comedy” is back on the big screen in Olympia. The Olympia Film Society is honoring the “immortal cult classic” starring Jeff Bridges and John Goodman with screenings at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18-19, plus Friday, Nov. 24. The Dude abides, indeed. Tickets are $12 general admission or $9 for film society members.
Freelance writer Molly Gilmore talks about what’s happening in Olympia and beyond with 95.3 KGY-FM’s Michael Stein (who is still laughing at a memorable scene from “The Big Lebowski”) from 3 to 4 p.m. Fridays.
