Summer entertainment series wind down, but bubbles, vagabond cellist fill the void

Lacey, Tumwater wrap up summer series

Far be it from us to rush the summer (fall doesn’t officially arrive until Sept. 22, after all), but signs of its demise are already here. Both Lacey and Tumwater are concluding their summer entertainment series this week. Lacey in Tune’s final 2025 Music and Movie event is happening Friday, Aug. 8. The finale features Portland singer-songwriter Jacob Westfall, a veteran of “The Voice” and “American Idol.” Westfall’s website classifies him as an “Americana tender-rock artist.” He’ll play at 7 p.m. in Huntamer Park, 618 Woodland Square Loop SE, Lacey, and the featured film, 1985’s “Goonies,” will be shown at dusk. Tumwater’s Screen on the Green ends the summer with a screening of “If” — about a girl who can see people’s imaginary friends — Friday, Aug. 8, at Tumwater City Hall, 555 Israel Road SW. The screening will begin at dusk (around 8:50 p.m.), and the city suggests coming early for craft projects and snacks.

Bubble the fun

The WET Science Center is hosting a pop-up Bubble Festival on Friday, Aug. 8. The free, all-ages event invites the curious to try blowing huge bubbles, square bubbles and more. It’s something to see: We were captivated a few weeks ago by someone creating giant bubbles along the waterfront. The Bubble Festival happens from noon to 3 p.m. Friday at East Bay Plaza, 325 Marine Drive NE, Olympia.

Tickets are $25-$40 on eventbrite, not at the box office.
