Nicole Kidman's Next Career Move - Death Doula?
Nicole Kidman has been the guiding voice for millions of moviegoers at AMC Theatres.
“We need that, all of us - that indescribable feeling we get when the lights begin to dim,” Kidman says in the now-famous AMC Theatres ad. “And we go somewhere we’ve never been before.”
Kidman could use that monologue in her next career.
Over the weekend, the Oscar-winning actress and global icon spoke at the University of San Francisco’s “Silk Speaker Series” and revealed that she’s training to become a death doula.
“As my mother was passing, she was lonely, and there was only so much the family could provide," Kidman said, per The San Francisco Chronicle. "Between my sister and I, we have so many children and our careers and our work, and wanting to take care of her because my father wasn't in the world anymore, and that's when I went, ‘I wish there was these people in the world that were there to sit impartially and just provide solace and care.'”
Kidman’s mother, Janelle, died at 84 in September 2024.
The International End of Life Doula Association defines the job as “a nonmedical companion who provides personalized and compassionate support to individuals, families, and their circles of care as they encounter and navigate death, loss, and mortality.”
Kidman’s stake in Hollywood is still very much alive and well, and she’ll be even more visible in the coming months.
Kidman and Sandra Bullock appeared at Warner Bros. CinemaCon on Tuesday to promote “Practical Magic 2,” out in September.
Last week, David E. Kelley teased the highly anticipated third season of “Big Little Lies” by confirming to People, “We’re getting the band back together, and it should be a good run again.” Kidman won a Primetime Emmy for her role in the acclaimed HBO series in 2017.
While we still don’t know when “Big Little Lies” might return into our lives, Kidman can next be seen in the Apple TV series “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” premiering on Wednesday. Kidman plays a former pro wrestler and lawyer and is credited as an executive producer.
