Prime Video Brings Back Emmy-Nominated Show for Surprise Final Season
"Good Omens" is returning for its third and final season, but not in the form fans think.
Instead of a traditional episodic format, the Emmy-nominated fantasy drama will contain just one, 90-minute episode, as confirmed via Prime Video’s official X page.
Prime Video actually renewed the show for a third season back in December 2023, but following months of silence, fans feared "Good Omens" dead in the water.
A significant development came in 2024 when sexual assault allegations were made against writer Neil Gaiman, who created the 1990 novel upon which the show is based, alongside Terry Pratchett.
While Gaiman no longer has a credit on the show, outlets have reported traces of his work remains.
"Some of Gaiman’s writing contributions to season 3’s storyline were reportedly retained," says ScreenRant. "Prime Video’s Anansi Boys adaptation [based on Gaiman’s 2005 novel] also completed filming, but has now been shelved."
"Good Omens" follows angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) as they join forces to prevent Armageddon. According to the official synopsis, “they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he's meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it's too late.”
‘Good Omens' Season 3 Release Date
"Good Omens” was renewed for its third and final series in December 2023, which is set to release on May 13, 2026. The third season takes the form of a single, 90-minute episode rather than a series of episodes.
‘Good Omens' Season 3 Story
There is no official synopsis for "Good Omens" Season 3. However, following last season’s finale, it will presumably cover Aziraphale and Crowley’s reconciliation. The final episode of season 2 set up the storyline of The Second Coming, which season 3 will likely continue.
