Nancy Guthrie Update: Why No One Has Turned in Porch Guy, Retired FBI Agent Speculates
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing after her Feb. 1 abduction-and a retired FBI agent recently speculated on why no one has turned in "Porch Guy" as the case nears 12 weeks.
On Thursday, April 23, former FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffertook to X to weigh in on the fact that no suspect has been named in the 84-year-old's case.
In her lengthy examination, Coffindaffer acknowledged that many people aren't even aware of Nancy's missing case. "It's very possible no one that knows him has seen Porch Guy or even knows about this case," she said of the masked individual captured in doorbell camera footage from Nancy's front porch.
She continued, "No. 2: People know about case, people know about this photo, people have seen the footage-and guess what? They are fiercely loyal."
Coffindaffer explored the possibility of a parent recognizing that Porch Guy is their son and wrestling with the idea that if they do come forward, he would be likely be subject to the death penalty. "It could be brother, it could be be husband, but you know," she pointed out. "But there's no way you're going to say."

A third reason for no one coming forward about Porch Guy, according to Coffindaffer, could be that they are "fiercely afraid" of him. "You know what he did. You've been tracking the case... But you know what? No way in hell you're coming forward. Because if he gets any inkling that you're acting in any way suspicious, you know you could be next."
Additionally, the retired FBI agent speculated that someone who knows something but isn't coming forward could be distrustful of the government despite $1.2 million in reward money on the table.
"Because of that, they don't trust that even if they come forward, that they're going to get paid," Coffindaffer explained. "They think if they come forward, the money is going to be withheld."
She also suggested that someone might think they recognize porch guy, but simply cannot "believe" it could be them. Another theory suggested that Porch Guy could be dead at the hands of a potential accomplice or someone who hired him.
Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home on the evening of Jan. 31. The Pima County Sheriff's Department (later joined by the FBI) launched its search for the 84-year-old on Feb. 1. As of writing, no suspect has been named despite Savannah's $1 million reward, the FBI's $100,000 reward, and another $100,000 to a local tip line.
