Wartales: Contract - Fires in the Capital DLC Is Out Now on Steam and GOG

Wartales, the open-world medieval tactical RPG from developer Shiro Games, has launched its newest DLC, Contract: Fires in the Capital, today on PC via Steam and GOG. It is priced at $12.99 and adds a new setting, a new mission structure, and a Chaos system that makes every decision you make in the city feel consequential. The game has sold more than 1 million copies since its April 2023 launch, and Fires in the Capital is the latest in a consistent stream of DLC that has kept that player base engaged.

The destination is Isandrin, the imperial capital of Edoran, and it is not doing well. General Maxime's sweeping reforms have fractured the city's factions, and the tension has reached a breaking point. Your warband has been called in not for an open battlefield campaign but for something more complex: restoring order across a living city where diplomacy, subterfuge, and force all have a role to play.

Hunt Brigands, Tear Down Propaganda, and Try Not to Make Things Worse

The new mission types in Fires in the Capital reflect the urban setting in ways that feel distinct from Wartales' previous DLC work. You will hunt brigands across districts to bring peace, destroy propaganda posters to undercut factions fueling the unrest, and move through the city as bards to shift public opinion without drawing steel. These are not just flavor additions: each action feeds into the Chaos system, altering trade flows and district stability in ways that carry forward through your entire run in Isandrin.

When diplomacy runs out, the DLC delivers urban combat scenarios that take advantage of the city's layout. Chase fleeing criminals before they can destabilize a neighborhood, escort convoys of crucial goods through burning streets, and rescue civilians caught in the crossfire. Game Director Quentin Lapeyre described the design intent directly: "Contract: Fires in the Capital offers a new perspective for Wartales, full of political intrigue and unrest. Every decision impacts the city, and the Chaos system has far-reaching consequences."
