'Survivor' Host Jeff Probst Finally Reveals When Returning Players Will Be Back-and Fans Won't Wait Long

Jeff Probst is giving Survivor fans an answer about the show's future.

In an interview with TV Insider, the longtime host revealed when viewers can expect returning players to compete again after Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.

"The chances are very good that you'll see more returning players sooner rather than later," Probst said of the 50s era, which includes season 51 which is filming now in Fiji.

"Let me be clear, I love returning-player seasons!" he added. "They're a lot of fun because there's history, reputation, unfinished business, and the audience already has a relationship with the players before the game even begins. That's very exciting!"

Survivor 50 marked the first time returning players were cast since season 40, Survivor:Winners at War. However, Probst says the string of all-newbie seasons was an intentional move on production's part.

"What people sometimes forget is that in order to have great returning-player seasons, you first have to discover great new players, let them play, and then give enough time for fans to miss them and be excited to see them again," Probst said. "You have to build the next generation before you can bring them back."

"Our last all-returning player season was [six] years ago with Winners at War. I know that can feel like a long time, but we have done a lot of returning-player seasons, and it was important to build a strong new bench of talent," he added. "I think we've done that. So yes, I'd say the chances are very good that you'll see more returning players sooner rather than later on Survivor!"

The last two episodes of Survivor 50 air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
