Donald Trump Just Posted a Pic of Himself as James Bond, and 007 Fans Have Something To Say About It
Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig…and Donald Trump? It's certainly not the first AI image that POTUS has shared. But a recent X post from the official White House account featuring the Commander-in-Chief in a poster-like pic holding a gun in silhouette, à la 007, has people talking (and a few mocking).
If you're wondering what Trump has to do with James Bond, it appears the post is a response to the search for a new 007. In a recent statement, Amazon MGM Studios announced that auditions have begun, revealing, "While we don't plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we're excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right."
The newest Bond film is the 26th installment of the series and will feature a script by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman, Dune's Denis Villeneuve, is set to direct. While fans have speculated superstars such as Idris Elba, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi could snag the coveted role, the studio is staying hush-hush about the auditions.
Of course, the AI-generated movie poster, which features the ‘Make America Great Again' slogan above ‘007,' isn't actually building a case for a Trumpy Bond. After all, as one commenter points out, "You do know Bond is a British spy?" And that would make it more than a conflict of interest for the President.
So what does the public think about the pic? Critics took aim at the President and the White House's…somewhat problematic messaging. One commenter replied on X, "There's literally not a single positive comment," and another added, "Trump as James Bond would be wild: walks into a villain lair, immediately announces ‘great conversation, very productive' gives the villain a 10-day extension, a 2nd extension, and probably a golf invite, and by the end credits he's still very close to a deal."
The comments weren't the only way X users got creative. Some shared their own AI images, including a mock Nosferatu "The Last Term" poster and several memes referencing Trump's alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein. One even added a burger to the Trump-as-Bond design, with the title, "The Man With the Golden Bun."
The comments didn't stop at the X post. Critics also flocked to other social media sites, such as Reddit. Cynics on the "entertainment" subreddit posted, "Yeah, From Russia with Love, indeed", "James Bond/007 isn't American (or real)...You couldn't think of one cool American", and "He's the bad guy 007 fights right?"
