Sharon Stone Makes a Dazzling Return to the Red Carpet After Announcing Devastating Loss Last Week

The acclaimed actress, 68, who is best known for roles in Casino, Basic Instinct, and Total Recall, is back on TV these days with a role on HBO's hot series Euphoria. But in a challenging twist of fate, the star was set to receive a major award at the Cannes Film Festival, just a few days after the devastating loss of her brother, Michael.
Looking more stunning than ever, Stone smiled brightly for the cameras as she attended The Better World Fund Gala Cannes 2026 on May 18, where she was honored for her philanthropic efforts.
Stone Announced Her Brother's Death on Instagram
On Wednesday, May 13, Stone announced her brother's death on Instagram.
"Mike Stone, My oldest brother, Has passed away. Following an extended illness. We wish him peace," the actress shared, alongside a photo of her brother looking into the camera.
Like his sister, Michael was also an actor. He appeared in popular series including The Bold and the Beautiful and CSI: Miami, while also appearing with his sister in 1995's The Quick and the Dead. He was 74.
Stone Keeps Going With Her Great Sense of Humor
One of Stone's most famous roles is that of Catherine Tramell in Paul Verhoeven‘s 1992 erotic thriller Basic Instinct. Stone's legendary character, who is suspected of being a savage killer, is pulled in for questioning by the police. Tramell is dressed in a cream-colored outfit in the infamous scene, which went down in film history for being sexually charged. On Christmas Eve, Stone posted a photo of herself from the scene, along with a hilarious holiday message.
"A reminder to bring a little main character energy to your holiday. wishing you a wonderful time with your family & friends this season, if you need an inspo for your fashion tonight, might I suggest my look from nobody 2? It should keep the conversation… light. 🎄xo Sharon," she wrote.
