Iconic ‘90s Rock Band Announces Exciting Tour News for 30th Anniversary
It's been 30 years since The Smashing Pumpkins released their RIAA-diamond certified rock album Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness. For over a decade, the band has been trying to find a way to celebrate this album, and the time is finally now.
The Rats In A Cage Tour will kick off on Sept. 30 in Columbus, Ohio, hitting major cities like Nashville and Las Vegas before wrapping in Inglewood, Calif., on Nov. 12 at the Kia Forum.
"Staging a Mellon Collie-themed show is something we've discussed for over a decade, and finally the stars have aligned and exactly on the terms I'd set: which was to build a special night around its most enduring aspirations and ideas," The Smashing Pumpkins' lead singer, Billy Corgan, said.
"With set one of The Rats In A Cage Tour exclusively featuring Mellon Collie songs in a highly theatrical setting, and set two drawing from the rest of our canon so that there's a decent amount of variance as to what songs we'll play from night to night: from our first in Gish to our last in Aghori Mhori Mei," he continued.
Fans quickly flocked to social media to share their excitement for the tour.
"SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP," one user on Instagram joked.
"@smashingpumpkins His music has the sound of my childhood; it's been with me through good times and bad," another commented.
The rock veterans have been busy lately, with The Aghori Tour in the fall of 2025 and the launch of Corgan's podcast, The Magnificent Others, earlier that year. Corgan also recently made his debut at Coachella, singing "1979" alongside Sombr.
"I've been a fan of Billy and The Smashing Pumpkins since I was a kid," Sombr told KROQ backstage at Coachella. "I reached out to Billy because I was a huge fan and I wanted him to do something with him and he was cool about it. He was instantly down, and it was just so perfect and we really aligned and I'm so grateful. Nicest dude ever. It's insane."
Tickets for The Rats In A Cage Tour will be available for pre-sale with Citi and Verizon on Tuesday, May 19, at 10 a.m. local time. In the meantime, check out Corgan's performance with Sombr here:
This summer, the Chicago-based band is also set to play Lollapalooza for the first time in over 30 years.
