Dawn Of War IV Continues Series Almost Ten Years Since Last Release

Revealed during the Warhammer Skulls Showcase, war returns to Kronus in Warhammer 40K Dawn of War IV, the latest game in the series of popular real-time strategy games set in the Warhammer 40K universe. Warhammer 40K Dawn of War IV will be coming out on September 17, with a content roadmap revealed for content rolling out throughout 2026 and into 2027.

Warhammer 40K Dawn of War IV will see players controlling one of the four warring factions in the Imperial world of Kronus: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus, the last of which makes their Dawn of War debut.

Dawn of War IV sees the return of the fan-favorite Last Stand game mode, and also offers skirmish game modes in both PvP and PvE setups, for up to six players at a time for each map.

However, Dawn of War IV's biggest addition is its Crusade Mode, a campaign game mode that lets players choose one of four campaigns, each one representing one of the four factions. Players embark on a world-conquering campaign that sees players go through a campaign map, either in single-player or co-op, and expand their faction's territory with each victory. The campaign is co-written by John French (Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Deathwatch), promising an epic story that Dawn of War has never seen before, complete with CGI intros and fully animated cutscenes.

Post-Release Content Roadmap

Warhammer 40K Dawn of War IV will launch with Crusade Mode and an array of skirmish maps in Map Pack I, allowing players to enjoy a massive amount of content in both single-player and multiplayer game modes.

In late Fall, the game will then receive a second Map Pack, and new content in the form of the Lord Ahmnok Last Stand Crusade. A story prologue focusing on the Blood Ravens chapter of the Space Marines will be released near December.

Towards the end of the year, players will receive the ability to create and share their own maps with the Map Editor, and a new batch of maps will come in the form of Map Pack III.

Finally, in Spring 2027, players get a new Guzcutta Last Stand Crusade. Shortly after this comes Aftermath, bringing with it a campaign expansion and a fifth, new, yet-unrevealed faction.
